Potential Research Projects

The Intelligent Design & Operation for Built Environment (IDOBE) research group at the University of Alberta has the following projects with fully funded Ph.D. and M.Sc. positions:

  • Testing, modelling, design, and operation of buildings and their systems (e.g., thermal conditioning, daylighting, and electric lighting.)
  • Robotics in construction
  • AI-assisted building design, operation, and inspection
  • Energy-efficient community greenhouses for cold-climate regions


Applicants need to have background in the following disciplines: Engineering (mechanical, civil and environmental, electrical, chemical and materials); computer science, applied physics, and architectural engineering.
