Maysoun Ismaiel
Maysoun Ismaiel completed her PhD in Civil (Cross-disciplinary) Engineering at the University of Alberta in 2022, supervised by Dr. Yuxiang Chen. Her research develops practical ways to estimate the effective thermal resistance of exterior masonry walls, where cladding ties, shelf angles and floor intersections create thermal bridges that are difficult to account for during early design.
Her thesis produced design charts and R-value multipliers that give designers the structural and thermal properties of common concrete masonry cavity wall configurations at the same time, along with adjustments to existing analytical methods for estimating R-values. She has also studied the airtightness of Canadian dwellings using measured data and predictive models.
